Many Brands Names Recalled

 

Malt-O-Meal Company distributed the possibly contaminated cereals nationwide under the Malt-O-Meal brand as well as other private labels including:

 

  • ACME
  • AMERICA’S CHOICE
  • FOOD CLUB
  • GIANT
  • HANNAFORD
  • JEWEL
  • LAURA LYNN
  • PATHMARK
  • SHAW’S
  • SHOPRITE
  • TOPS
  • WEIS QUALITY

Dates of Recalled Cereals

 

The All unsweetened Puffed Wheat and unsweetened Puffed Rice products with “Best If Used By” codes between April 8, 2008 (coded as “APR0808”) and March 18, 2009 (coded as “MAR1809”) are being removed from the shelves of grocery stores, because of the potential for Salmonella contamination.

 

 

If you have any of these products at your home DO NOT EAT THEM. Remove the open or unopened product from your shelves, mark the open product to insure that no one else eats it, and return the unopened product to your grocery store for a refund. 

 

If the product caused illness, save the unused portion in a safe place, as it may be important evidence of your exposure to Salmonella.

Symptoms of Salmonella

 

Salmonella bacteriumAccording to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, persons with Salmonella infection may experience the following symptoms:

 

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal Pain

 

Sometimes symptoms can be so severe that they may be potentially life-threatening.  If you ate this potentially contaminated cereal, and if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, see a medical doctor immediately.
